This subject provides an overview of the field of intellectual property law. It focuses on the challenging and dynamic area of copyright law. It explores and traces the key areas of patent law, confidential information, trademarks, as well as specialist topics including designs law.

On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:

Explain the nature and scope of intellectual property legislation in Australia including international obligations and proposed reforms;
2.
Identify the requirements for protection of intellectual property rights under statute and common law;
3.
Outline and evaluate the policies underlying intellectual property protection; and
4.
Develop strategies to problem solve and resolve legal disputes involving intellectual property rights.
